Drivers Training Permit Memo

Nearly every teenager dreams of the day when he or she may be licensed to drive an automobile. Here in Parkland School District , students are provided with a program in Driver Education. The classroom course is offered in tenth grade while the behind-the-wheel program is available as soon as the student has a valid learners permit. The behind-the-wheel instruction is given in a dual-control car, which has a brake pedal for the instructor’s use as well as other special safety equipment. Adequate insurance coverage is carried for this car and all who use it or ride in it.

Our goal in giving this course is to prepare competent, skillful, and responsible young drivers who will have the right attitude toward safe driving and will, therefore, assist in reducing accidents on the streets and highways. Other possible benefits of the program for your child include:

  • It teaches the student to be a safe driver. Studies have proved that trained drivers are involved in fewer accidents than untrained drivers. Many insurance companies recognize this fact by granting a “Drivers Education Insurance Discount” to young drivers who complete both the classroom and behind-the-wheel programs. At the conclusion of both programs a Drivers Education Certificate will be issued to the student.

  • Students may secure their regular license at the age of 17 ½ instead of waiting until their 18.

  • At the conclusion of the program students may take their DRIVERS LICENSE TEST at Parkland High School . This test replaces the need to test with the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles test for a junior license.
