Parkland
School District's
Goal For
Art Education |

| PARKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT
GOAL FOR ART EDUCATION |
| All major world civilizations have focused on the arts. Through
their legacies, history has been revealed and man has learned
about their cultures. Art education for the twenty-first century
must focus on providing a legacy for our time. |
| A twenty-first century curriculum for art education needs
to be sequentially organized around five major components: |
ART HISTORY
|
reflecting all cultures, past and present. |
AESTHETICS
|
understanding “truth and beauty” through the
philosophy of art. |
PRODUCTION OF ART
|
development of skills using a variety of media
to create works of art reflecting current social
values. |
ANALYSIS (CRITICISM) OF ART
|
development of cognitive and
language skills enabling students to read
about, write about and respond to art. |
ASSESSMENT
|
formative and summative evaluation procedures to
objectively and subjectively measure student
learning. |
| Parkland School District has a long standing reputation for
excellence in education in the Lehigh Valley and embraces the
obligation to provide all of its students with a premier experience
in the visual arts. The Center For The Visual Arts at Parkland
High School campus provides “state of the art” facilities
to ensure that a sequentially organized curriculum and dedicated
faculty fulfill Parkland’s commitment to the highest
quality art education in the twenty-first century. This quality
commitment focuses on: |
TWO DIMENSIONAL ART
|
Design, Drawing, Painting and Printmaking. |
THREE DIMENSIONAL ART
|
Ceramics, Jewelry and Metals, Sculpture,
Textiles and Traditional Crafts. |
HISTORY AND THEORY
|
Aesthetics, Art History and Analysis of Art. |
TECHNOLOGY
|
Computer Graphics, Photography and Animation. |
| An avant-garde program in the visual arts education, the
finest facilities combined with a community/district art gallery
and resource center serves those students oriented toward a
career in art. Most importantly, a system of open one semester
electives offers all Parkland students the opportunity to engage
in a visual arts education experience. This will allow them
to appreciate art and become knowledgeable consumers of art,
making aesthetic decisions which will impact on their entire
lives. |
