Future Business Leaders of America
The Future Business Leaders of America organization is a national, educational association of student members preparing for careers in business or those who want to explore possibilities in the free enterprise system. FBLA helps students develop leadership abilities, and prepare for a successful life in the business world. Members learn how to engage in business enterprise, how to direct the affairs of a group, and how to compete honorably in competitive events. These activities help prepare students to be better employees and better citizens.
The Parkland High School Chapter, consisting of 50 members, is part of this larger organization. PHS students receive all of the benefits that the organization has to offer. Recently, in early February, PHS FBLA took a total of 30 Parkland students to the Regional Leadership Conference, held at Northampton High School. Parkland students participated in numerous competitive events, ranging from Accounting to Parliamentary Procedure. An overwhelming 18 students advanced to the State Level Competition, held in April at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA.
The Parkland Chapter is also greatly involved in service activities. We coordinated the Casual-for-a-Cause drive, in which teachers pay to dress up casually every Friday, benefiting Habitat for Humanity. We participated in a charity volleyball tournament at Bangor High, also to support Habitat for Humanity. We are also planning selling innovative, attractive PHS metal key-chains in the spring. PHS FBLA continues to train students for the business world, and does not cease to churn out numerous professionals every year.
